History

Walter Reed Hospital has recently moved from Washington, DC to the Bethesda, Maryland campus and there are more active military and veterans living in and around Montgomery County. Pain Connection is located in Rockville which is in Montgomery County and has been actively collaborating with the Mental Health Association’s program ‘Serving Together’, Veterans Collaborative, Inter Service Family Assistance Coordinators and several other community non-profits to help provide services to the military/veteran population. The rising numbers of suicide among military are due to untreated Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury and Chronic Pain. The military culture has taught this population to be strong and ignore their pain and injuries. This creates stress and anxiety on wounded soldiers/veterans and increases their pain levels. Pain Connection wants to normalize their pain and provide resources that can help these “pain warriors” to develop a quality of life.
